Located approximately 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles, Santa Clarita is the third largest city in Los Angeles County. It plays host to the Santa Clarita Marathon every November, a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. Local highlights of this beautiful city include:
- William S. Hart Museum & Park. Hart was a popular silent film actor, director, writer and producer who appeared in western movies in the early 1900's. His former home, a Spanish Colonial Revival style mansion, is now a museum devoted to the early era of cinema and to western art. The grounds include a Ranch House circa 1910, and the park features a picnic area, hiking trails, and farm animals.
- Castaic Lake Recreational Area. You'll find Castaic Lake just north of Santa Clarita and it offers swimming, fishing, camping, and hiking in a magnificent setting.
You'll also find public art throughout the city in the form of the California Bear Project which places life-size replicas of a Monarch grizzly around town. Another big attraction for residents and visitors: a major amusement park, Six Flags Magic Mountain® , is located just outside the city limits of Santa Clarita.
